VIVA LA VIDA

VIVA LA VIDA

from CA$100.00

Hand-painted in 2022 on Procreate, “Viva La Vida” is a piece from Ugonna Ikechi’s third solo exhibition In Translation. This painting is inspired by the 2008 song of the same name by Coldplay. The Artist poses this work as a companion piece to “What’s Going On?” from the same collection. This iteration depicts a tyrannical ruler who has lost all power & has faced justice via execution, to the joy of the land.

“revolutionaries wait
for my head on a silver plate
just a puppet on a lonely string
oh, who would ever want to be king?…”

Coldplay. “Viva La Vida”, Viva La Vida or Death and All His Friends, Parlophone Records, 2008, track 7.
